Birthplace: Adams County, Iowa Resided In: Villisca, Iowa Wilma Bashaw, 84 years entered into peace on August 12, 2014 at her home. Wilma Maxine (Lynam) was born in Adams County Iowa on May 27, 1930 the daughter of William J. and Marion Lovina (Martin) Lynam. She graduated from Nodaway High School in 1948. Upon graduating she began teaching in a two-room schoolhouse at Morton Mills. She taught for 5 years before resigning to care for her family. She married Herb Bashaw on August 5, 1951. To this union 3 children were born, two sons, Joel William and Thomas Charles and a daughter, Jeanne Kay. The family initially lived in Morton Mills and later relocated to Villisca. Wilma was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, served on many committees organizing luncheons and bazaars in addition to holding several offices. She was a 4-H leader for many years and served on the Montgomery County Extension Women's Committee. In 1981 she was the Montgomery County Extension Homemaker of the Year. She was also a member of Montgomery County Farm Bureau. She volunteered for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Villisca. In 1986 she was the very first woman elected to be a Montgomery County Supervisor. Wilma enjoyed reading, walking, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Herb Bashaw, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Left to cherish her memory are son: Joel and wife Marlene (Holmes) Bashaw of Shenandoah, IA; daughter: Jeanne Jones of Dallas, TX; and son: Thomas and wife Carolyn (Franzen) Bashaw, of Villisca, IA; 7 grandchildren: Elizabeth Bashaw of Omaha, NE; Heidi and husband Eric Eide of Alexandria, VA; Megan and husband Herb Lukes of Iowa City, IA; Brittany and husband Josh Wiig of Red Oak, IA; Todd Bashaw of Shenandoah, IA; Brent Jones, of Dallas, TX; Joshua Bashaw of Villisca, IA; 2 great grandsons: Grayson Eide of Alexandria, VA and Charles Wiig of Red Oak, IA; her sister: Joyce Gourley; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Wilma will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Her memory will live on in their hearts. May God grant comfort and peace to those who mourn her passing. A celebration of life service will take place 11 AM Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Villisca with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. There will be a private family interment of the cremated remains of both Herb and Wilma prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Villisca Swimming Pool. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
