Birthplace: Marion, Kentucky Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Wilma Allen, age 70, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Wilma Ruth Allen was born February 17, 1933 in Marion, Kentucky the daughter of Henry and Idabelle (Ausenbaugh) Fletcher. The family moved to Gary, Indiana when Wilma was very young. She was raised in Gary, Indiana and Graduated from the Emerson High School in Gary, Indiana. Wilma attended and graduated from the Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. On February 16, 1957, Wilma was united in marriage to Sherman "Merrill" Allen. After their marriage, they lived in the Chicago area until moving to rural Emerson, Iowa in 1969. Wilma and Sherman have lived on the Allen family farm for the past 33 years. Wilma was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson: Seth Allen. Survivors include her husband: Sherman "Merrill" Allen of Emerson, Iowa; 2 sons: Karl Allen and his wife Teresa of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Kent Allen and his wife Laura of San Diego, California; grandchildren: Claire and Paul Allen, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Brittney Allen of San Diego, California; sister: Judy Binkley and her husband Paul of Jacksonville, Florida; brother-in-law: Joe Allen and his wife Jean of Emerson, Iowa; sister-in-law: Lori Johnson and her husband David of Stow, Ohio; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, April 18, 2003 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with Rev. Suzanne Hewett officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Cemetery. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
