Birthplace: Canton, South Dakota Resided In: Stanton, Iowa William "Bill" Gray, age 79, of Stanton, Iowa passed away Monday, November 22, 2004 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. William "Bill" Gray was born September 14, 1925 in Canton, South Dakota the son of Harold and Claire (Mitchell) Gray. The family moved to Adams County when Bill was a young boy. He attended grade school in Adams County and high school in Nodaway, Iowa. After school he farmed until he entered the United States Army during WWII. Upon his return after the war, Bill was united in marriage to Josephine Dolecheck on June 25, 1947 in Troy, Kansas. They farmed in the Stanton area until 1966. Bill drove a truck on the farm to market route and later drove a rendering truck, retiring in 1996. He continued to work part time for area farmers. Bill was a member of the Stanton American Legion Post and enjoyed Draft Horse Pulling all over the midwest. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters: Marguerite Kehr; and Ruth Perrin and her husband Dallas; 2 brothers: Paul Charles Gray; and Jack Gray; sister-in-law: Marilyn Gray; son-in-law: Dan Forkner; 2 nephews: Edwin Dale Powell; and Robert Gray; and niece: Clara Mae Perrin. Survivors include his wife: Josephine Gray of Stanton, Iowa; son: Paul Harold Gray of Stanton, Iowa; daughter: Patricia Forkner of Des Moines, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Lynette Gray of Stanton, Iowa; Leann Fluckey and husband Steve of Stanton, Iowa; Loren Gray of St. Joseph, Missouri; Lathan Gray of Villisca, Iowa; and Danielle Forkner of Des Moines, Iowa; 3 step-grandchildren: Angela Forkner of Des Moines, Iowa; Amy Storm of Russell, Iowa; and Adam Forkner of Chariton, Iowa; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother: Jim Gray of Prescott, Iowa; 2 brothers-in-law: David Kehr of Rifle, Colorado; and Duane Dolecheck and wife Eula of Creston, Iowa; 3 sisters-in-law: Joann Gray of Villisca, Iowa; Carolyn Gray of Prescott, Iowa; and Pauline Crussell and husband Clemmeth of Clarinda, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Alan Dean officiating. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery in rural Montgomery County, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
