Birthplace: Adams County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Wayne Walford, age 66, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Wayne Hinton Walford was born June 16, 1936 in Adams County, Iowa the son of John and Verna (Hinton) Walford. He was raised in the Corning area and graduated from the Corning High School in 1954. Right after high school Wayne traveled from Texas to Canada with the Wheat Harvest. After that he farmed and worked at Eveready Wayne was united in marriage to Roberta "Bert" Sheets on September 20, 1959 in Red Oak, Iowa. He worked for 25 years with the Red Oak Transfer Company after which he went to work for the City of Red Oak for 14 years in the Water Department. Wayne worked for the Red Oak Schools and the Hospital for a short time before retiring in 1998. Wayne also worked for many years with Century 21 Rubey Realty and Auction Company. He enjoyed camping, fishing, his pontoon boat, and especially his grandchildren and family. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Robert Walford. Survivors include his wife: Roberta "Bert" Walford of Red Oak, IA; children: Kim and Rick Morgan and their children: Colin and Caitlin of Stanley, Iowa; Kevin and Kim Walford and their children: Cody and Morgan of Red Oak, Iowa; and Kerry Walford and Carolynn Storm and their child: Loden Storm Walford of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mother-in-law and dear friend: Maxine Durst of Red Oak, Iowa; 3 brothers: Donald Dean Walford and his wife Betty of Red Oak, Iowa; Roger Walford and his wife Donna of Red Oak, Iowa; and Tom Walford and his wife Betty of Arizona; sister: Doris Von Bon and her husband Jack of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 sisters-in-law: Kathy Collins and her husband Mike of Lake City, Iowa, and Diana Durst of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law: Jim Durst and his wife Sloane of Blue Springs, Missouri; many nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends. Memorials services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, July 25, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association or a memorial fund being established to purchase park benches in memory of Wayne. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
