Birthplace: Coal, Missouri Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Funeral services for 81 year old Wayne W. Joyce of Red Oak, Iowa will be held 2 PM Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Michael Kalstrup officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Fellowship of Faith Church or the Heartland Home Health and Hospice. On Monday September 1, 2003, Wayne W. Joyce went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, after being diagnosed with cancer on June 4, 2003. He was born August 27, 1922, to Walker and Bertha (Woods) Joyce of Coal, Missouri. After attending school in Coal, Wayne transferred to Clinton High School, Clinton, Missouri, his senior year where he met his future wife, Elnora Taylor. Upon graduation he joined the military and served as a hydraulic specialist with the 8th Army Air Corps in Europe during WWII. After the war he returned to Missouri to marry Elnora on June 3, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri. This year they celebrated their 58th anniversary. In 1947, Wayne moved his family to Kansas City, Missouri, where Wayne went to work for the General Motors assembly plant. In 1953 he and his brother-in-law, Howard Taylor, opened a Conoco full service gas station. After selling his interest in the station in 1957, the family moved to Red Oak, Iowa, and with his brother, Alton, opened the first of five NAPA auto parts stores under the name of Joyce Brothers Auto Supply. They operated stores in Red Oak, Shenandoah, Clarinda, Griswold, and Hamburg. Retiring in 1986, Wayne and Elnora spent winters in their condo in Mesa, Arizona and summers in Red Oak. Wayne enjoyed golfing with his friends and working on home improvement projects. Wayne loved his church and was a member of the Fellowship of Faith Church of Oakland, Iowa, for eighteen years. He belonged to the Lion's Club and the Red Oak Country Club where he and Elnora enjoyed playing golf with many friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Alton; his brother-in-law, Howard Taylor; and brother-in-law Jack Sherman. He is survived by his wife, Elnora of Red Oak, Iowa, his son; Terry and his wife, Teresa of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his daughter, Claudia Trebelhorn and her husband Richard of St. Louis, Missouri, 6 grandchildren; Daniel Joyce and his wife Kathleen of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Angie Rice and her husband Brent of Chandler, Arizona, Eileen Joyce of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Bryan Trebelhorn of Chicago, Illinois; his sister, Lois Sherman of Carrolton, Missouri, sisters-in-law, Marjorie Joyce of Shenandoah, Iowa and Vera Taylor of Independence, Missouri, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Memorials may be sent to the Fellowship of Faith Church, Oakland, Iowa or to Heartland Home Health and Hospice, Red Oak, Iowa.
