Birthplace: Murray, Iowa Resided In: Yuma, Arizona Wayne Burgus, age 77, of Yuma, Arizona passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at the Yuma Regional Medical Center. Wayne Eldon Burgus was born September 28, 1929 in Murray, Iowa the son of Fred and Winnie (Johnson) Burgus. He was educated in the Murray school system and joined the United States Navy in November of 1946. Wayne was united in marriage to Roberta Adams on November 3, 1956 at the Christian Church in Osceola, Iowa. Wayne completed 20 years of service in the military in 1966. After retirement from the Navy, Wayne continued working in the same position for civil service. He later moved on to "Project Transition" finding educational opportunities and job training for Navy personnel leaving the service. After years in an office, the open road called to Wayne. He bought a truck and a flat bed trailer and started life as a long haul truck driver. After four years, he returned to government service driving supplies to area commissaries from Oakland Naval Supply Depot. He retired in 1985. Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother: Dale; sister-in-law: "Billie"; grandnephews: Michael David Burgus and Shaun Conroy; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: R.D. and Gertrude "Gertie" Adams. Survivors include his wife: Roberta Burgus of Yuma, Arizona; sister-in-law: Pat Maher and husband George of Red Oak, Iowa; brother-in-law: Lynn Adams and wife Jacky of Red Oak, Iowa; nieces: Delaine Gable and husband Dick of Universal City, Texas; Dayna Dove of Grand Prairie, Texas; Debby Conroy and husband Guy of Norwalk, Iowa; Shelley Jones and husband Steve of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Kim Robinson of Red Oak, Iowa; Kristi Patrick of Red Oak, Iowa; nephews: David Burgus and wife Karen of Osceola, Iowa; Jack Adams and wife Fredrique of Paris, France; Steve Adams and wife Lynn of Red Oak, Iowa; and Mike Maher and wife Dee of Omaha, Nebraska; great nieces and nephews: Wren and Ames Jones; Erik Robinson, Jill and Jamie Patrick; Clayton, Allison, and Ben Adams; Miles and Floyd Adams; and Kelsey and Patrick Maher; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 12 PM to 1:45 PM at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Following the visitation, family and friends will proceed to the cemetery for the graveside service. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
