Obituary

Gordon "Wayne" Bailey, age 85, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society. Wayne was born November 16, 1937, on the Bailey family farm, the son of Clarke and Maxine (Chrisman) Bailey. Wayne's father, Clark and Wayne's siblings, Darwin and Mary were also born on the farm that has been in their family since 1893. Currently, Wayne's grandson lives on the family farm. Wayne graduated from Red Oak High School in 1955 and served in the United States Marines. He was united in marriage to Connie Halvin on February 14, 1959, in Red Oak, Iowa. He worked for Western Electric when first married as well as Union Carbide before starting to farm. Farming was his passion which he continued his whole life. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Red Oak Elks Lodge. He enjoyed playing cards including cribbage, restoring old cars, showing cars, drag racing, tractor pulls, and reading.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister: Mary White; and brother: Darwin Bailey. Survivors include his wife: Connie Bailey of Red Oak; children: Pam Bailey-Smith and husband Craig of Runnells, IA; David Bailey and Brenda Vrba of Red Oak; and Dennis Bailey and Cindy Hom of Red Oak; grandchildren: Ann Howard and husband Duke of Runnells, IA; Joshua Grooms and wife Jessika of Pleasant Hill, IA; Danielle Fitch and Ryan Fitch of Des Moines, IA; Micah Grooms of Runnells, IA; Jarod Smith of Runnells, IA; Wyatt Bailey of Red Oak; Mary Kate Soe and husband Matt of Red Oak; Ashley Parker of Council Bluffs, IA; Ashley Schrader and husband Brad of Papillion, NE; Jordan Vrba and wife Chelsea of Red Oak; and Grant Vrba of Red Oak; 17 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5-6:30 pm Monday, February 13, 2023, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with a celebration of life gathering to follow at the Red Oak Elks Lodge. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or the Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor.
