Birthplace: Princeton, Nebraska Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Warren E. "Pete" Rolofson, age 89, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Warren Elbert "Pete" Rolofson was born October 24, 1922 in Princeton, Nebraska the son of Samuel Paul and Mae Louise (Slafter) Rolofson. He was raised near Lincoln, Nebraska graduating from the Teachers College High School in Lincoln with the class of 1941. He entered the United States Army serving during WWII. He was involved with the landing on Omaha Beach, The Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. One of Pete's tasks during WWII was an opportunity to drive General Patton and President Eisenhower in his jeep. Upon his return from the war, Pete met Dixie Barnett and they were married on July 7, 1946 in Hiawatha, Kansas. They made their home in Westboro, Missouri. Warren later farmed near Fairfax, Missouri until moving to Tarkio where he worked at a Chrylser dealership. Warren and Dixie moved to Farragut, Iowa where he farmed until moving to Red Oak, Iowa in 1957. They have lived in the same house in Red Oak since 1971. Over the years, Pete worked for the Phillips 66 station, was a Red Oak police officer, a carpenter, worked for the railroad, the City of Red Oak Park Department, and retired from the City of Red Oak Water Department in 1985. Warren was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion, Lorraine Post #67. He enjoyed bowling for the Rainbow Café team, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and in his younger years, enjoyed being a Boy Scout Leader and a Little League Coach. Preceding him in death were his parents; two infant siblings, sisters: Mildred Rosenlof, Dorothy Rolofson, and Grace Rolofson; brother: Gayle Leonard Rolofson; and son-in-law: Eugene Roof. Survivors include his wife: Dixie Rolofson of Red Oak, IA; children: Dean Rolofson and wife Patty of Tarkio, MO; Gayle Rolofson of Maryville, MO; Linda Roof of Riverview, FL; Danny Rolofson and wife Joni of Red Oak, IA; Carey Rolofson and wife Lindy of Platte City, MO; and Steve Rolofson and wife Angie of Platte City, MO; grandchildren: Dr. Tyler Rolofson, Jeremy (Polly) Rolofson, Pete (Bess) Rolofson, Mike (Marni) Nickolaison, Lynn Sundberg, Terra (Chad) Bosley, Natasha Howard, Shawn Rolofson, Brentt Hughes, Carisa (Curtis) Patterson, Jana Rolofson, Amanda (Ryan) Campbell, Brett Rolofson, Breann Rolofson, Zachary Rolofson, and Abigail Rolofson; great grandchildren: Suzzette, Sethan, Jolene, Jaden, Colin, Gwen, Savanna, Ashley, Grayson, Drake, McKayla, Ryan, Triston, Ryleigh, Garrett, and Noah; brother: Paul Rolofson and wife Gloria of Gresham, OR; sisters: Lucille Southard of Tarkio, MO; June Wensel and husband Charles of Mountain Home, AR; and Esther Southard of Fairfax, MO; brother-in-law: George Barnett and wife Ann of Tarkio. MO; many nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Burial will be in the Tarkio Home Cemetery in Tarkio, Missouri at 2:30 PM on Monday, October 8, 2012. Visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 PM Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
