Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Warren H. Braden, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away, Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Warren Harding Braden was born March 6, 1921 on a farm North of Red Oak the son of Paul and Esther (Trued) Braden. He graduated from the Red Oak High School in 1940 and enlisted in the US Army, Ordinance Unit in October of 1942. After Basic training he was stationed in England, France, and Germany. Later, he traveled through the Panama Canal when he was shipped out to the Philippines where he worked as a mechanic. He received an honorable discharge on January 20, 1946 and returned to Red Oak. During this time, he was united in marriage to Mary Forester on November 5, 1944 in Columbia, South Carolina. Eight years later they renewed their vows at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Warren worked for Fox and Finley Chevrolet dealership and later the Kavan Studebaker dealership. He joined his father's mechanic business, Braden and Son Garage, in 1953. He continued working there for 33 years on cars, trucks, and tractors until 1986 when his health forced him to retire. During his retirement, Warren and Mary spent four summers in Bennington, Nebraska with his son Kevin and family and wintered in Texas and Las Vegas. In 1998 they moved back to Red Oak. Warren loved his family, camping, and traveling. Warren and Mary had traveled throughout the US including a 6 week camping trip to Alaska. Warren was a member of the First Christian Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served on the Red Oak City Council from 1968 until 1975. He also served as Mayor Pro-tem for a period of time. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother: Grant Braden who was killed in action during WWII. Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Mary Braden of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Susan Elaine Miller of Columbia, Missouri; son: Kevin Warren Braden and wife Jan of Bennington, Nebraska; grandchildren: Shannon Mutschler and husband Paul of Essex, Iowa; Kim Sunderman and husband Curt of Shenandoah, Iowa; Jessie Montgomery of Villisca, Iowa; Elizabeth Montgomery-Moore and husband Brian of Villisca, Iowa; Holly Miller and Joseph Miller of Columbia, Missouri; Michael Braden and fiancée Rachael Walz of Bennington, Nebraska; and Matthew Braden of Bennington, Nebraska; 7 great grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; sister: Darlene Weibusch of Omaha, Nebraska; nephews: Alan and Scott Weibusch of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 11 AM Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the First Christian Church with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. A private family burial of the cremated remains will take place prior to the memorial service at the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the National Arthritis Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
