Birthplace: Hull, IA Resided In: Johnston, IA formerly Red Oak Wanda Louise DeJongh, age 90, of Johnston, Iowa formerly, Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Wanda was born October 23, 1926 in Hull, Iowa the daughter of Jerrie and Mina (Gorzeman) Dykstra. The family moved to Sheldon, Iowa when Wanda was in the 7th grade. She graduated with the Sheldon High School class of 1944. She was united in marriage to Freeman DeJongh on July 10, 1947 in Sheldon, Iowa. They lived many different place including Marshall, MN, Primghar, IA, Glencoe, MN, Orange City, IA and Belle Plaine, MN before moving to Red Oak in 1965. Wanda worked for the City of Red Oak as a bookkeeper for over 20 years. She was a long time member of the Bethlehem Lutheran church where she served on the Altar Guild. She currently was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Johnston, Iowa. Wanda was a very loving giving person who volunteered for many organizations throughout the years. She loved people and was very active in the Crown Point Community Center in Johnston and the Women's Bible Study at church. She loved sewing, knitting, playing cards, bowling, and dancing. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Freeman DeJongh on September 8, 1992; and son: David DeJongh on March 29, 2017. Survivors include her children: Kathy Levine and husband Charles and Jim DeJongh of Johnston, IA; grandchildren: Nathan DeJongh of Nyman, IA; Heidi DeJongh of Essex, IA; Jacob DeJongh of Brooklyn, NY; Desiree Bosworth and husband Steve of Pocatello, ID; Hannah Foster and husband Tyler of N. Liberty, IA; and Mark Levine of Johnston, IA; great grandchildren: Michael David Johnson, Rye and Grace Bosworth and Baby Foster on the way; sister: Betty Schoch of Lake City, FL; nieces: Sheree Vann and husband Marc and Cindy Dicks and husband Delvey of Lake City, FL; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Johnston, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of the cremated remains will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the St. James Lutheran Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
