Birthplace: Rural Grant, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Vivian Ellis, age 72, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 30, 2004 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Vivian Louisa Ellis was born December 10, 1931 near Grant, Iowa the daughter of Dallas and Lillie (Schuler) Porter. She was raised in the Grant, Elliott, and Red Oak areas and graduated from the Elliott High School in May of 1949. Vivian was united in marriage to Lyle "Richard" Ellis on August 20, 1949 in Hiawatha, Kansas. They lived north of Red Oak for many years while Richard was farming. Vivian was working at the Union Carbide until she went to work for the Murphy Memorial Hospital in 1960. The family moved to Red Oak in 1961. Vivian worked at the hospital until 1973. Later she worked at the Good Samaritan Care Center where she was a certified social worker. Vivian was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, a former member of the church choir, a member of the Acorn Acres Resident Council of which she was president, member of the Democratic Election Committee, and was a Lifeline contact for many of the Acorn Acres residents. She was preceded in death by her father: Dallas Porter; her mother: Lillie Porter Mullen; her step-father: Owen Mullen; and a sister: Dorothy Barr. Survivors include her husband: Lyle "Richard" Ellis of Red Oak, Iowa; son: Richard "Lynn" Ellis and wife Kim of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 granddaughters: Amy and Shayna Ellis both of Red Oak, Iowa; 3 sisters: Bernadine Fisher of Red Oak, Iowa; Phyllis Taylor and husband Vernon of Atlantic, Iowa; and Kathleen Kelley and husband Richard of Elliott, Iowa; 2 brothers: Dennis Porter and wife June of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Reed Porter and wife Jackie of Gravois Mills, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, November 5, 2004 at the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott, Iowa with Pastor Derek Watt officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:30 AM at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel to go to the cemetery in procession. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
