Birthplace: Villisca, Iowa Resided In: Villisca, Iowa Virginia Joyce "Jini" Westerlund, age 86, of Villisca, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Virginia was born April 5, 1932 in Villisca, Iowa the daughter of Gus and Emma Josephine (Johnson) Froyd. She graduated from Villisca High School in 1950 and attended two years at Northern Iowa Teachers College and later graduated from University of California at Northridge. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Westerlund on June 29, 1952 in Villisca, Iowa. They moved to California in 1956, Maui, Hawaii in 1979, and back to Villisca, Iowa in 1992. She taught school for many years in Iowa, California, and Hawaii. She was a member of the Villisca Presbyterian Church where over the years she sang in the choir as well as directing the choir. She loved playing cards and bowling. Preceding her in death were her parents; 13 siblings; and her daughter: Charlou. Survivors include her husband: Kenneth Westerlund of Villisca, IA; daughters: Julie Vasquez of Maui, HI and Kelly Courtice and husband Brian of Punta Gorda, FL; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Gene Westerlund and wife Joan of Villisca, IA; and many other relatives and friends. A private family celebration of life service will be held at a later date in Maui, Hawaii. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with cremation services.
