Birthplace: Iowa City, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Virginia Rees, age 71, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa after a sudden illness. Virginia Rees was born January 6, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Dean Frazee, Sr. and Myrtle Davis Frazee. She was raised in Creston, Iowa graduating from Creston High School in 1957. She worked for Bernings in Creston until becoming a telephone operator. She was united in marriage to Harry Rees, Jr. on February 24, 1962 in Creston, Iowa. After their marriage, they moved to the Omaha area until moving to Stanton, Iowa in 1967. In 1969, Virginia and Harry moved to Red Oak, Iowa where Virginia worked for the Ben Franklin Store until starting with Uniroyal. She worked for them for over 30 years and retired from the Parker Hannifin Company with a record of perfect attendance. She received the John K. Sullivan Award for Employee of the Year. Virginia was known to many as the "Flower Lady" and always had people stopping by her house while she was working in her gardens and telling her how much they enjoyed seeing her flowers. She loved to share the flowers with people always participating in the annual flower swap for the Red Oak Garden Club. One of her proudest moments was when she won the Red Oak Chamber's Yard of the Month in August 2008. She also loved working on homemade crafts and enjoyed making things as gifts for her friends and family. Virginia was known as being a very caring, loving person, always putting other's happiness and well being before her own. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Harry Rees, Jr. on July 24, 1987; brother: John Frazee; and sister: Jeana Daily. Survivors include her daughter: Sherry Akers and husband Steve of Red Oak, Iowa; brother: Dean Frazee and wife Maxine of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters: Darlene Cheers and husband Leo of Creston, Iowa and Joan Frazee of Creston, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Ed Daily of San Diego, California and Larry Rees and wife Florence of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Linda Frazee of Michigan; Norma Creveling and husband Kenny of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; and Glea Andrews and husband Kenny of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; nieces and nephews including: Teresa Cheers of Creston, Iowa; Bill Daily of San Diego, California; Dean Frazee and wife Lisa of Omaha, Nebraska; and Jeff Frazee and wife Sher of Van Meter, Iowa; great nieces and nephews: Chelcee Cheers of Des Moines, Iowa; Andrew, Brianna, and Aiden Frazee of Omaha, Nebraska; and Noah Frazee of Van Meter, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brett White officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
