Obituary

Our precious mother, Virginia Charlene Mutschler, went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2023, at 6:35 a.m., at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak with her children by her side. She died as she lived with beauty, dignity, and grace.

Virginia devoted her life to her beloved husband, Ernie, and her seven children. Her family meant the world to her. She was the light of our life. A wife, mother, and grandmother who taught us by example and with passion what it means to love unconditionally. A truly beautiful woman. A smile that touched your soul.

We will miss her immensely. She was our go to when life got rough. We have so many things to be thankful for in this lifetime on earth. First and foremost is that we have been fortunate to be raised in a home with loving parents. A mom and dad who cherished their children.

Mom was born in Hoka, Minnesota on May 11, 1938, the daughter of James D. and Maxine A. Shawley. She was raised in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, with her brothers and sisters. Mom always loved and cherished her Wisconsin roots. She met the love of her life, Ernest J. Mutschler "Ernie" and they were united in marriage on June 27, 1959, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. She and dad moved to Red Oak, Iowa, where they raised seven children, making Red Oak their home for over 50 years. Her greatest treasure in life was her almost sixty years of marriage to her beloved Ernie. Our dear dad passed away on March 4, 2019. Mom and dad were the epitome of love. Her hand in his until the moment he passed.

Virginia is survived by her seven children who will cherish her for the rest of their lives: Kimberly A. Cileli (Ken); Brenda M. Mutschler; Kathleen J. Lejman (Andy); Matthew J. Mutschler (Hector); David E. Mutschler; Tonya L. Gillespie (Chad); and Paul J. Mutschler; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends and was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law: Erin Mutschler.

Mom's life has been one filled with love. A love story. A love for family. She instilled in her family many treasures throughout the years that have become traditions for each of her children. We will cherish them always. No child should ever grow old without the memory of such a beautiful mother. The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memory of you shall never pass away.

As a family we would like to thank the Red Oak Internal Medicine, Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, and the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Comfort Care. Their compassion and loving care of our precious mom will always be remembered. We will be forever grateful.

You were a precious gift from God above,

so much beauty, grace, and love.

You touched our hearts in so many ways,

your smile so bright even on bad days.

You heard God's whisper calling you home,

you didn't want to go and leave us alone.

You loved us so much, you held on tight,

till all the strength was gone and you could no longer fight.

He had called your name twice before,

you knew you couldn't make him wait anymore.

So you gave your hand to God and slowly drifted away,

knowing that with our love we will be together again someday.
