Virginia Lea "Ginny" Houston, age 69, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the Lakeside Hospital in Omaha. Virginia was born October 2, 1953, in Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Gordon and Betty (Brown) McMullen. Ginny joined two older siblings, Claudia and Beverly. She was later joined by a younger sister, Julie, and younger brothers, Brian and Rob. She was raised in Henderson, Iowa, where she attended grade school. Ginny went on to graduate from Nishna Valley High School in 1971. Shortly after high school, Ginny was united in marriage to Ken Putnam of Oakland, Iowa. Two sons were born to this union, Jason and Trevor. A little later, she was united in marriage to Bill Houston of Omaha, Nebraska, and welcomed two stepchildren to their family, Kevin and Kris. Ginny enjoyed making new friends at several places she worked, many of them becoming lifelong friends! A couple of Ginny's favorite things in life were her love of music and dance. She also loved to entertain and had that down to a fine art. "The Hostess with the Mostess". Anyone who knew Ginny knew she had a strong belief in God and in our savior Jesus Christ.
Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Rob McMullen. Survivors include her sons: Jason Putnam and wife Brande of Bennington, NE and Trevor Putnam and wife Krissy of Louisville, NE; step-children: Kevin Houston and wife Vicky of Omaha, NE and Kris Bowman of Omaha, NE; many grandchildren; siblings: Claudia Hoover and husband Herb of Henderson, IA; Beverly Boulware of Parkville, MO; Julie Rowden of Kansas City, MO; and Brian McMullen and wife Kim of Kansas City, MO; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Henderson Christian Church with a time of lunch and fellowship to follow at the Henderson Community Building. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family.
Services are under the direction of the family with Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa, assisting with cremation services.
