Birthplace: Silver City, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Virgil E. Hunt, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Virgil Edward Hunt was born October 9, 1921 in Silver City, Iowa the son of Lue Eddie "Ed" and Edna (Luzio) Hunt. He was raised in the Glenwood area. After high school, Virgil started farming with his dad. Virgil served his country in the Army during WWII. While in the service he met Nelly Gerber and they were united in marriage in 1946 in Switzerland. They returned to Red Oak, Iowa in 1947 and Virgil started farming in 1948. They lived on three different farms in Montgomery County. Virgil and Nelly moved into Red Oak in 2003. Virgil was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and a former member of the Farm Bureau. Virgil was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and had a great sense of humor. He was a hard worker and was very talented as a carpenter and a welder. He enjoyed playing games especially cards and just loved being on the farm. He was always interested in checking on his cattle whether he rode his horse or rode his four wheeler. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Don in 1967; and sister: Kathleen Pfeiffer in 1997. Survivors include his wife: Nelly Hunt of Red Oak, Iowa; daughters: Karin Cowell and husband Lanny and Suzanne Gerner; grandchildren: Jennifer Richardson and husband Jon and Josh Catron and wife Lindsay; great grandchildren: Ellie and Wyatt Richardson all of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers: Keith Hunt and wife Jewel of Coffeyville, Kansas and Delbert Hunt and wife Jane of Underwood, Iowa; sisters: Phyllis Bradley of Red Oak, Iowa and Donna Carlson and husband Leonard of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
