Birthplace: Shenandoah, Iowa Resided In: Rural Elliott, Iowa Viola R. Turner, age 88, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 24, 2006 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center in Red Oak. Viola Ruth Turner was born May 8, 1918 in Shenandoah, Iowa the daughter of Edward Grant and Ethel Ann (Vickers) Boan. She was raised in Red Oak, Iowa graduating from Red Oak High School in 1936. She was united in marriage to Philip Turner on August 18, 1936 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived all of their married life on the Turner Family farm. Viola was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ where she was a sponsor of the Christian Youth Fellowship in earlier years. She was also a member of the Research Club. Viola loved her family and her home and was known for her cooking, baking, gardening, egg delivery around the countryside, and making homemade soap for laundry. Her family remembers special treats like her homemade chocolate cakes and pies, pickles, chicken and noodles, homemade doughnuts, churned butter, rye bread, Halloween popcorn balls and Christmas caramel apples. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Percy, Burnett, and Douglas; and sisters: Juanita Stewart and Virginia DePauw. Survivors include her husband of 70 years: Philip Turner of Elliott, Iowa; children: Larry Turner and wife Judy of Elliott, Iowa; Diane McCunn and husband Myron of Orion, Illinois; Doug Turner and wife Marla of Elliott, Iowa; Todd Turner and wife Terri of Wales, Iowa; and Tracy Turner of Elliott, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister: Joan Canady and husband Dr. George Canady of Jefferson, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, August 28, 2006 at the Elliott Church of Christ in Elliott, Iowa with Pastor Michael Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, August 27, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Elliott Church of Christ or the Elliott Public Library. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
