Birthplace: Albion, Nebraska Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Viola Marie (Galitz) Silk was born April 4, 1913 in Albion, Nebraska, the daughter of Henry Emil and Louise Ann Johanna (Schomburg) Galitz. She passed away on Wednesday evening, July 22, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak at the age of 96 years, 3 months and 18 days. Viola grew up and attended school in Wolbach, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1931. Following high school, Viola taught school for a couple of years. On December 23, 1933, she was united in marriage to Leo Raymond Silk in Grand Island, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children; Beverly, Sharon and Craig. Leo and Viola moved to Iowa on July 7, 1937 and engaged in farming with one cow and four chickens. She had been a member of numerous neighborhood and card clubs. Viola enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking for them and playing cards with them. After Leo's retirement from farming, they enjoyed ballroom dancing. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; three sisters, Dorothy Galitz in infancy, Maye Atwell and her husband Harry; Irene Berney and her husband Charlie; two brothers, Emil Galitz and Raymond Galitz; and a grandson Jay Wibbels. Survivors include her children, Beverly Wibbels and her husband Melvin of Boise, Idaho, Sharon Fay and her husband Marlin of Camden, Tennessee, Craig Silk and his wife Diane of Elliott, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Anne Simila and her husband Keith of Ogden, Utah, Mark Wibbels and his wife Terry of Boise, Idaho, Kathryn Wells and her husband Vern of Boise, Idaho, Traci Lamb and her husband Phillip of Red Oak, Iowa, Joel Fay and his wife Erin of Lexington, Kentucky, Nicole Goehring and her husband Paul of Omaha, Ne, Todd Silk and his wife Christie of Elliott, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; a brother, Herbert Galitz and his wife Delores of Hastings, Nebraska, a sister-in-law, Mary Galitz of Oakland, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.
