Birthplace: Villisca, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Viola E. Shuey, age 95, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004 at her daughter's residence in Creston, Iowa. Viola E. Shuey was born August 14, 1908 on a farm near Villisca, Iowa the daughter of John and Nora (Falk) Oman. The family moved to a farm near Stanton, Iowa where she attended country school until the death of her father at which time the family moved to Red Oak. Viola graduated from Red Oak High School and worked at the Thomas D. Murphy Company until her marriage to William Shuey in 1930. Viola was a homemaker and a mother after her marriage. She enjoyed listening to sports on the radio and watching sporting events on television. Viola especially liked the Red Oak Tigers, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Iowa State Cyclones. She and William attended many Red Oak sports events. Viola also enjoyed writing letters and sending cards on special occasions to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: William C. Shuey; son: William O. Shuey; grandchildren: Joy Olmstead and John Shuey; one great grandchild; and sisters: Mildred Brown and Dorothy Hatswell. Survivors include her daughter: Barbara Bills and husband Gordon of Creston, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Jeff Shuey and wife Melissa of Missouri; Bill Shuey and wife Deloris of Texas; David Shuey and wife Julie of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Kim Gatliff and husband Chester of Des Moines, Iowa; Cindy Quinn of Des Moines, Iowa; Shelley Longstaff and husband Jeff of Creston, Iowa; and Kevin Bills and wife Holly of Creston, Iowa; 13 great grandchildren; nephew: Steve Bitterman and wife Marlene Watson and their daughter Allison of Red Oak, Iowa; brother in law: Charles Shuey of San Diego, California; and niece: Dorothy Melchert of San Diego, California; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Alan Dean officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak High School Boys Athletic Department in memory of William O. Shuey, Class of 1949. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
