Birthplace: Pottawattamie County, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Viola K. McVay, age 94, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away, Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Viola Katherine McVay was born March 10, 1914 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, near Macedonia, the daughter of Lester L. and Mathilda (Kruse) DeBolt. She attended school in Macedonia. After school, Viola did housework for several different families and worked at home until her marriage to Bea McVay on October 16, 1935 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Viola and Bea farmed most of their lives near Emerson, Iowa until retiring and moving into town in 1965. Viola was known to be a beautiful quilt maker, loved her dogs, and played the accordion for dances in her younger days and also at the Good Samaritan Care Center where she has been a resident since 1998. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Bea McVay on December 4, 1984; brothers: Roy, Marion, Merle, Earl, and Dale DeBolt; and sister: Vera Viner. Survivors include her sister: Vivian Hicks of Emerson, Iowa; brothers: Lester DeBolt and wife Evelyn of Red Oak, Iowa; Robert DeBolt and wife Marjorie of Charles City, Iowa; and Herb DeBolt and wife Lorraine of Clarinda, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law: Elmerna DeBolt of Carson, Washington; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society Bus Fund. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
