Birthplace: Rural Stanton, Iowa Resided In: Villisca, Iowa formerly Stanton, IA Veryll Edward Magneson, age 99, of Villisca, Iowa formerly Stanton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Society. Veryll was born July 27, 1917 near Stanton, Iowa the son of Arthur Edward and Freida Fredricka Elizabeth (Brodd) Magneson. He started farming with his dad at a young age and entered the United States Army during WWII. He drove a supply truck to the front lines and was wounded receiving the Purple Heart. He also received the Bronze Star Medal for exceptional valor. Upon his return from service, Veryll farmed with his dad. He was united in marriage to Ruth Geneva Jones on August 3, 1947 in Griswold, Iowa and they started farming on their own in the Stanton area. They moved south of Villisca where they farmed until moving into Stanton in 1988. In addition to farming Veryll operated a milk route and drove a truck for many years, hauling, sand, rock, and lime. He loved doing dirt work with his CAT and even after retirement he did dirt work until the age of 83. Over the years, Veryll attended Tabor Lutheran Church at Wallin, Bethesda Lutheran Church, and Bethlehem Lutheran. Preceding him in death were his parents; infant sister: Doris; wife: Ruth Magneson on March 16, 2001; daughter: Debbie Magneson in 1979; son-in-law: Gary Peterson; sisters: LaVerna Hayner and Berniece England; and brother: Merlin Magneson. Survivors include his children: Verlene Gambs and husband John of Red Oak, IA; Connie Magneson of Red Oak, IA; and Cindy Johnson and husband Randy of Olathe, KS; grandchildren: Scott Peterson and wife Diane of Waterloo, IA; Annette Rosendahl and husband Matt of Cedar Rapids, IA; Kristin Madden and husband Pete of Blair, NE; McKaela Magneson of Red Oak, IA; Angie Pendgraft and husband Rodney of Oakland, IA Heidi Harn and husband Dr. Nick Harn of Olathe, KS; and Robbie Peterson of Grove, OK; great grandchildren: Mason, Trevor, Nicholas, Taylor, Parker, Asher, Jill, Kaylee, Shyennah, Ashton, Ruthie, Jailyn, Jenna, Joey, Kylie, and Kendyl; sister-in-law: Mildred Magneson of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial with military honors will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
