Birthplace: Strand, Iowa Resided In: Stanton, Iowa Vernita M. Crouse, age 94, of Stanton, Iowa formerly Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Stanton Care Center. Vernita Mable Crouse was born August 7, 1917 near Strand, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Mable (Archer) Peterson. She was raised near Quincy and Gravity, Iowa attending school in Adams County. Vernita was united in marriage to Robert Crouse on April 28, 1934 in Glenwood, Iowa. They lived many different places throughout Southwest Iowa but lived south of Stanton where they farmed for most of their married life. Robert passed away in 1990 and Vernita moved to Red Oak in 1993. The past five years she has been a resident of the Stanton Care Center. Over the years Vernita has enjoyed spending time camping, fishing, gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and other needlework projects, and spent many hours visiting with family and her many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; infant son: Norman; husband: Robert Crouse in 1990; daughter: Shirley Joan Lewis in 2010; granddaughter: Marcia Crouse; siblings: Helen Ranck; Ted Peterson; Ruby Smith; Glen Peterson; and Harold Peterson. Survivors include her children: Richard Crouse and wife Lucille of Nodaway, Iowa; Karen Sundberg of Red Oak, Iowa; Judith Crouse of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Warren Crouse and wife Deb of Red Oak, Iowa; son-in-law: Donovan Lewis of Red Oak, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Iowa Hospice or the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
