Valerie Sue Behrens, age 56, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Valerie was born December 19, 1967, in Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Darrell and Lila (Roberts) Behrens. She was raised near Villisca, Iowa, and graduated from Villisca High School in 1986. Valerie graduated from Southwestern Community College in 1988 and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville for a short period of time. She was an excellent athlete and was a letterman in many different sports, both in high school and in college. While living in Creston, Iowa, Valerie worked at Hy-Vee (where she was the kitchen manager), Casey's, and Bunn-O-Matic. When she began to have health issues, she moved to Red Oak, Iowa, to be closer to family. She was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Valerie loved music, and played in Jazz Band at SWCC, and for productions both in Creston and in Villisca at the Rialto Theater. Family was her passion. She cherished her time spent with each one of her family members. Valerie loved cooking and attending as many of her nieces' and nephews' activities as possible.
Preceding her in death was her father: Darrell Behrens. Survivors include her mother: Lila Behrens; brothers: Gene Behrens and wife Kim of Villisca, IA, and Rick Behrens and wife Nancy of Red Oak, IA; nieces: Amanda Ward and husband Zach of Stanton, IA; Allison Mann and husband Aaron of Chicago, IL; and Sarah Behrens and fiancé Quinn Allen of Ames, IA; nephew: Jordan Behrens and wife Austine of Villisca, IA; many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.
