Birthplace: Beatrice, Nebraska Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Terry Lee Hilzendeger was born April 16, 1953 in Beatrice, Nebraska, the son of Alex and Rita Marie (Hinkle) Hilzendeger. He passed away early Sunday morning, March 30, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital at the age of 54 years, 11 months and 14 days. Terry grew up in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1971. After graduation, he worked various jobs including construction work. He later managed Johnny's Steak House in Red Oak until his health forced him to quit. On October 23, 1989, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Johnson in Omaha, Nebraska. Terry enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing pool and poker with his friends. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Rita Hilzendeger and a sister, Vicki Brown. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Red Oak, Iowa; step children, Deborah Holste and significant other Delbert Bermel of Omaha, Nebraska, Tammy Gary of Red Oak, Iowa, Karen Durbin and her husband Chris of Ames, Iowa; a sister, Jody Shellberg and her husband Gary of Stanton, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Charles (Chic) Brown of Marshalltown, Iowa, Dale Johnson and his wife Chris of Stanton, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Chaney and her husband Dennis of Glenwood, Iowa, Janie Willhite and her husband Roger of Houston, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Corey Franks, David Franks, Joshua Holste, William Bogart, Stephanie Askey, Jeff Askey, Bradina Gary, Chelsea Gary, Greg Neal, Kelli Neal, Megan Neal; along with many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery at Stanton, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Terry's name. The Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
