Birthplace: Humboldt, Nebraska Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Ted A. Brewer, age 63, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Ted Alan Brewer was born June 23, 1948 in Humboldt, Nebraska the son of Harlan and Linda (Kornegay) Brewer. He was raised in Nemaha, Nebraska and graduated from the Stella, Nebraska High School in 1966. He attended college at Southeast in Milford, Nebraska before serving with the Seabees in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Ted returned from Vietnam and started working for Mace & Hahn Implement in Red Oak, Iowa in 1972. In 1973, He started working for Nebraska Tractor and Equipment in Omaha. Ted was united in marriage to Karen Herbert on August 14, 1974 in Elk Point, South Dakota. Ted started T & K Repair in Emerson, Iowa in 1984 and retired in 2008 for health reasons. He was a member of the Emerson American Legion Post #575, the VFW, the DAV, and the Diabetes Association. He enjoyed Nebraska football, tractor pulling, NASCAR racing, and music, including Polka and Country. Preceding him in death were his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Mike and Lois Herbert; and sister-in-law: Kathy Chatterton. Survivors include his wife: Karen Brewer of Emerson, IA; step-son: James Lynn Skalberg and wife Kelli of Coleman, AL; grandson: James Skalberg, Jr. serving in Afghanistan and wife Jessica of Red Oak, IA; granddaughter: Spring Dawn Skalberg of Coleman, AL ; great grandson: Carter James Skalberg of Red Oak, IA; sisters: Bonnie Brewer and husband Jeff Johnston of Elmwood, NE and Judy Schlosser and husband Joe of Shubert, NE; brothers-in-law: Ken Herbert and wife Cheryl of Villisca, IA and Gene Chatterton of Red Oak, IA ; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 PM Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Emerson Fire Department. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
