Susan Joanne "Susie" Gibson, age 65, of Nyman, Iowa, passed away, Monday, December 6, 2021, at her home. Susie was born March 26, 1956, in San Francisco, California, the daughter of John George and Laura E. (Swain) Schmidt. Susie was raised in California and graduated from St. Paul's Catholic High School in San Francisco. The family had relatives in Red Oak, Iowa, where Susie met David DeJongh. They were married and raised two children: Nathan and Heidi. They lived several years in California before moving back to Iowa. Susie was later united in marriage to Russell Gibson. They made their home in Nyman, Iowa. Susie was a homemaker and worked at her parents' business, My Place Tavern, in Red Oak, Iowa, for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, was a great cook, and the kids describe her as a very loving and kind person, always being the caregiver.
Preceding her in death were her father, John Schmidt and husband, Russell Gibson. Survivors include her children: Nathan DeJongh and Heidi DeJongh of Nyman, IA; grandson: Michael Johnson of Nyman, IA: mother: Laura Schmidt of Castle Pines, CO; sisters: Linda Alston and husband Gilbert of Orland, CA; Catherine Buss and husband Daniel of Discovery Bay, CA; Janet Fournier of Castle Pines, CO; and Tracy Aguilera and husband Luke of Daly City, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held will be held 10 AM Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
