Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Susan Joann "Sue" Gerdts, age 65, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Sue was born June 30, 1949 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Lee and Virginia (Carlson) Knapp. She graduated from Red Oak Community High School and was united in marriage to Roger Gerdts. Three children were born to this union: Angela, Melysa, and Christie. Sue lived in Washington State and Afton, Iowa for a short time before moving back to Red Oak where she lived most of her life. Sue worked for the Job Service of Iowa for many years and also the Red Oak Express. She was a Red Oak Ambassador member, Red Oak Eagles member, and volunteered many hours at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital and the Wilson Performing Arts Center. Preceding her in death were her parents and daughter: Angela Kirsten Gerdts. Survivors include her daughters: Melysa Helton of Denver, CO and Christie Petersen and husband Eric of Denver, CO; grandchildren: Chelsey Petersen, Jacob Petersen; Sydney Helton, and Jayden Caldwell all of Denver, CO; brother: Thomas Lee Knapp and wife Gail of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Eagles Lodge. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
