Birthplace: Emery, South Dakota Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Suneva Mayer Simpson, age 95, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Suneva Annette Mayer Simpson was born December 27, 1913, in Emery, South Dakota, the daughter of A.D. and Rose (Reichling) Mayer. She graduated from high school in South Dakota and taught country school there. She later attended Iowa State Teachers College and graduated with a degree in teaching. She was united in marriage to Richard Simpson on August 23, 1937 in Emery, South Dakota. They moved to Red Oak in 1940. Suneva was a homemaker until the late 1950's when she started work for Nishna Valley Schools in the Library. At the same time she got her degree in Library Science from UNO. She later worked for the Shenandoah School System where she retired. Suneva was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, loved to play and teach Bridge, and enjoyed knitting. Suneva and Richard always enjoyed social events and spent many hours visiting with friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; infant daughter: Susan; son: Chris in 1974; husband: Richard Simpson on March 16, 2006; and sisters: Norene, Calista, and Delphine. Survivors include her daughter: Rosie Simpson of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers: E.D. "Hit" Mayer of Mitchell, South Dakota and Richard Mayer and wife Beverly of Nicolette, Minnesota; sisters: Rosemary Scarcet of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Charlotte Heuer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Margie Winter of Mitchell, South Dakota; many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, February 2, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Ken Gross officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 4 PM Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with visitation with the family to follow until 6 PM. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
