Birthplace: Sheldon, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Shirley J. Stebbins, age 70, of Red Oak, Iowa formerly of Audubon, Iowa passed away Monday, September 12, 2005 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after an extended illness. Shirley Jo Stebbins was born March 19, 1935 in Sheldon, Iowa the daughter of Ralph and Vera (Caruth) Stebbins. The family lived in Estherville, Sioux City, and Missouri Valley before moving to Red Oak in 1940 when Shirley was five years old. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1952 and Iowa State Teachers College in 1956. She taught school in Audubon, Iowa from 1956 until retiring in 1993. She was an elementary vocal music instructor. Shirley moved back to Red Oak in 1998. She was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, the Audubon Elementary Retired Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. Shirley also bowled on Women's League and loved to do crafts including china painting and country cross stitching. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law: Blaine Humphrey. Survivors include her two sisters: Geraldine Humphrey of Council Bluffs, IA; and Phyllis Stebbins of Red Oak, IA; 2 brothers: Ralph Stebbbins, Jr. and wife Evelyn of Nixa, MO; and Robert Stebbins and wife Joan of Council Bluffs, IA; nieces and nephews: Robert Stebbins, Jr. and wife Louisa of Eldorado Hills, CA; Diane Michalski and husband Blake of Omaha, NE; Susan Steffens of Omaha, NE; and John Humphrey and wife Lynne of Carroll, IA 10 great nieces and nephews; and long time teacher friend: LaVonne Godfrey of Audubon, IA. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, September 15, 2005 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
