Birthplace: Griswold, Iowa Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Shirley Buffon, age 72, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Shirley M. Buffon was born May 26, 1930 in Griswold, Iowa the daughter of Jesse and June (Wright) Knoke. She attended school in Griswold, Iowa and was united in marriage to Charles Bryan Lewis on July 14, 1946 in Troy, Kansas. He preceded Shirley in death on March 3, 1975. Shirley was later united in marriage to Walter Buffon on July 1, 1977 in Elliott, Iowa. She was a janitor for the Elliott High School, a waitress at several restaurants, and was a homemaker. Shirley was a lifelong resident of Elliott, Iowa and a member of the Elliott Church of Christ. She was also a past city council woman, a member of the Montgomery County Election Board, Order of Eastern Star #95, and was a published poet with her own website. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her 1st husband: Charles Bryan Lewis; 3 brothers: Robert "Bob" Knoke; John Knoke; and Richard "Dick" Knoke; and brother-in-law: Elton Shepard. Survivors include her husband: Walter Buffon of Elliott, Iowa; daughter: Diana Petty and her husband George of Elliott, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Lisa Bailey and her husband David of Red Oak, Iowa; Bill Petty and his wife Kim of Red Oak, Iowa; Jodi Petty of Elliott, Iowa; and Sarah Petty of Elliott, Iowa; 6 great grandchildren: Ashley Parker of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Wyatt and Mary Kate Bailey of Red Oak, Iowa; Dakota and Sierra Petty of Red Oak, Iowa; and Allison Petty of Elliott, Iowa; 3 sisters: Norma Shepard of Omaha, Nebraska; Mary Muller and her husband Everett of Griswold, Iowa; and Sonia Montgomery and her husband Gerald of New Sharon, Iowa; 2 sisters-in-law: Geraldine Knoke of Eureka, Illinois; and Betty Knoke of Omaha, Nebraska; special friends: Ross and Alex Oakleaf of Elliott, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at the Elliott Church of Christ with Rev. Robert Shockley officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 PM Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott Church of Christ. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
