Obituary

Birthplace: Shenandoah, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Shirley A. Allbee, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at her home after an extended illness. Shirley Ann Allbee was born January 17, 1933 in Shenandoah, Iowa the daughter of Hubert and Hazel (Rhoads) Jones. She graduated from Shenandoah High School and later married Cecil Travis. Two children were born to this union: Edward and Allen. Shirley was later united in marriage to Richard Allbee on October 8, 1967 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She worked at Woolworth's while in Shenandoah. Shirley and Richard moved to Red Oak in 1975 where she worked for Spurgeons, Turner Trucking, Batten Sanitation, and most recently CDS. Shirley was a member of the First Christian Church and volunteered much of her time to making mittens for the school kids and other organizations. She loved knitting and crocheting and spending time with her family. She was known to be very loving and was a very generous person. Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister: Janet Jones. Survivors include her husband: Richard Allbee of Red Oak, Iowa; sons: Ed Travis and wife Jonya of Shenandoah, Iowa and Allen Travis of Shenandoah, Iowa; granddaughters: Melody Ann Wells and husband Shon of Clarinda, Iowa and Tiffany Travis of Shenandoah, Iowa; great grandchildren: Alexus Willis, Miani Wells, and Cash Edward Harrold; brother: Martin Hale of Seattle, Washington; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, September 30, 2011 at the First Christian Church with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 1:30 PM. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
