Birthplace: Corning, Iowa Resided In: Stanton, Iowa Sharon K. Wenberg, age 63, of Stanton, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 7, 2011 at her residence after an extended illness. Sharon Kay Wenberg was born August 16, 1947 in Creston, Iowa the daughter of Leland and Leola (Templeton) Goodnight. She attended school in Red Oak and Stanton. Sharon was united in marriage to Donnie Smith and to this union two children were born: Dee and Kevin. She later was united in marriage to Harlan Wenberg on July 9, 1976 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. To this union, a son was born: Kale. Sharon and Harlan lived all of their married life in Stanton, Iowa. Harlan preceded Sharon in death on February 26, 2010. Over the years Sharon worked at Union Carbide, K-Mart, and most recently TRACO Window Factory. Sharon enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and going to the casino. She loved family gatherings and sharing all of her produce, from the garden, with family and friends. Sharon was a lover of animals, especially her dogs: Buddy, Bailey and Kado; and her cats: Garfield and Mama Kitty. Her family describes her as "feisty", "big hearted", and "strong". Preceding Sharon in death was her father: Leland Goodnight and her husband: Harlan Wenberg. Survivors include her mother: Leola Goodnight of Stanton, Iowa; children: Dee Skidmore and fiancé Rod Sowers of Red Oak, Iowa; Kevin Smith and fiancée Kristi Svendsen of Omaha, Nebraska; and Kale Wenberg of Stanton, Iowa; step-children: Shaunda Parks of Kansas City, Missouri and Jennifer Selock and husband Scott of Kansas City, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Leland Wenberg and wife Paula of Omaha, Nebraska and Kelvin Wenberg and wife Marilyn of Stanton, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 1-3 PM on Saturday prior to the funeral service. Cremation will take place following services and inurnment will take place at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Hospitality House at Immanuel Hospital or the American Cancer Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
