Obituary

Sandra Kay "Sandy" Berriman, age 83, of Houston, Texas, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Clear Lake Hospital in Webster, Texas. Born on January 20, 1943, Sandy's life was marked by her loving and joyful spirit, dependable nature, and a great sense of humor that endeared her to all who knew her.

Sandy graduated from Red Oak High School in 1960 and furthered her education at Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Duchesne College in Omaha Nebraska. Sandy was united in marriage to Jay Dee Berriman on June 11th, 1964, in Red Oak, Iowa, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She began her career as an administrative assistant at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, while Jay attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. After welcoming their children, Christine, Cynthia, and Patrick, Sandy embraced the role of a full-time mom and homemaker. Her family was her pride and joy, and she became a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, affectionately known as "Nan", actively participating in her grandchildren's lives, and attended countless sporting events and dance recitals.

She was preceded in death by her loving & dedicated husband of fifty-six years: Jay Dee Berriman; parents: Donald and Mary Catherine Boyle (Mamo & Papo); father-in-law and mother-in-law: Mel & Viola Berriman; brothers-in-law: Larry Heuer, Robert Berriman, and Marvin Meggison; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Berriman and Marie Molyneux; and niece: Rebecca "Becky" Meggison.

Sandy is survived by her children: Christine Archer and husband David; Cynthia Ferrer and husband Fred; Patrick Berriman and wife Renee; grandchildren, Jacob Ferrer and wife Ashley; Andrew Archer and wife Lauren; Joel Ferrer and wife Alexandra; Sarah Archer; Kaden Berriman; and Kaleb Berriman; great-grandchildren: Reagan and Kennedy Ferrer; her loving sister and ever loyal confidant: Sherry Heuer; nieces: Michelle Heuer-Focht and husband Mark and Amy Heuer-Bomer and husband Darren; special friends: Todd & Kris Wheeler of Houston, Texas; the "Tea Shop Group" Peggy & Kirstein; the Moser Family of Des Moines, Iowa: Jill, Paul, Ann, Susan & Quinn; and Sandy & Jay's beloved miniature schnauzers.

Sandy's hobbies were as diverse as her personality. She had a passion for black & white photography, maintaining her own dark room at one point. She found joy in refinishing furniture and collected and traded glass electrical insulators. She also mastered the art of stained-glass fabrication, providing many cherished finished projects to family and friends. Above all, her true passion was her family, her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who filled her life with happiness.

She was a devout member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Houston, Texas, where she participated in community and spiritual activities.
