Birthplace: Chicago, IL Resided In: Red Oak, IA Ruth Sperber, age 76, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society after an extended illness. Ruth Ann Sperber was born February 24, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Ira and Carrie (Billings) Perdue. The family moved to Iowa when Ruth was a young girl. She graduated from Griswold High School in 1956 and was united in marriage to Ron Sperber in 1958. Two children were born to this union: Steven and Melissa. In 1979 Ruth earned her nursing credential from Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda, Iowa. She worked at Good Samaritan Society and also Stanton Care Center. Most recently she worked for the Rainbow Café. She loved gardening and was a wonderful cook. Ruth was preceded in death by her grandmother: Birdie Billings; her parents; step-brothers: Stan and Evan Perdue; and step-sisters: Dorine Billings and Rosabelle Dahlin. Survivors include her children: Steven Sperber and wife Rhonda of Red Oak, IA and Melissa Fort of Fremont, NE; grandchildren: David and Alec Sperber of Red Oak, IA; Nathan Fort and wife Melissa of Fremont, NE; and Nikki Salmon and fiancé Jeremy of Fremont, NE; sisters: Kathy Perdue and boyfriend Kenny Bowers of Elliott, IA and Linda Wilkinson and husband Ron of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law: Audrey Perdue of Red Oak, IA; step-brother: Irvin Perdue and wife Helen of Carson, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
