Birthplace: Griswold, Iowa Resided In: Griswold formerly Grant, Iowa Ruth E. Mueller, age 86, of Griswold, Iowa formerly of Grant, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the Griswold Care Center after an extended illness. Ruth Elaine Mueller was born March 20, 1923 in Griswold, Iowa the daughter of Edwin and Verda (Miller) Phillips. She was raised in southwest Iowa graduating from the Villisca High School in 1940. She worked in Omaha for Union Pacific in their clerical department before being united in marriage to Kenneth Mueller on April 21, 1945 in Griswold, Iowa. They lived all of their married life in Grant, Iowa. Ruth was the Grant City Clerk for many years and later worked as a bookkeeper for Lester Swanson Accounting. She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Bridge Club, Pinochle Club, and the Order of Eastern Star. She was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She always made sure that others were cared for whether it was preparing meals for or helping with accounting and preparing taxes for friends. Kenneth preceded Ruth in death on March 2, 2008. Survivors include her daughter: Ramona Hetrick and husband Lee of Lincoln, Nebraska; son: John Mueller and wife Carla of Elliott, Iowa; grandchildren: Benjamin Pejsar of Lincoln, Nebraska; Rachel Pejsar Snelling and husband John of Lincoln, Nebraska; Bradley Mueller of Springfield, Missouri; and Allison Mueller of Ames, Iowa; a great grandson: Grant Snelling of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother-in-law: Carl Mueller of Duluth, Minnesota; sister-in-law: Carol Phillips of W. Covina, California; nephews: John Sproule and wife Geraldine of Washington, Iowa and Frank Sproule and wife Janet of Atlanta, Georgia; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Grant, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the funeral services at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established in Ruth's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
