Birthplace: Essex, IA Resided In: Elliott, IA Russell Charles Nelson, age 89, of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Russell was born July 21, 1928 in Essex, Iowa the son of Lawrence and Millicent (Hart) Nelson. He was raised in the Climax and rural Elliott area. Russell served in the United States Army during Korea. After his return from service, he started working for Montgomery County and was united in marriage to Dorothy Milner on June 27, 1953 in Glenwood, Iowa. He later work for Homer Focht Construction and retired after a long career with Kaiser Construction Rock Quarry. He was a former member of the Elliott Volunteer Fire Department, an American Legion member, Disabled Veterans member, and was one of the veterans attending the 2013 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Preceding him in death were his parents; son: Mark Nelson; brother: Cecil Nelson; and sisters: Kathryn Whitehouse, Janet Hunt, and Dorothy Elwood. Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Dorothy Nelson of Elliott, IA; son: Rick Nelson and wife Nancy of Elliott, IA; brothers: Leroy Nelson of Fontanelle, IA and Norman Nelson and wife Claire of Apple Valley, CA; brothers-in-law: Joe Elwood of Elliott, IA; Gordon Milner of Elliott, IA; and Dick Milner and wife Karen of Elliott, IA; sisters-in-law: Annie Nelson of Altoona, IA and Mary Reynolds and husband Lyle of Omaha, NE; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 pm Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Russell's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
