Birthplace: Wales, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Russell Jones, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, November 14, 2003 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Russell T. Jones was born November 2, 1911 in Lincoln Township of Montgomery County near Wales, Iowa the son of Harvey and Laura (Marsden) Jones. He was raised in the Wales area and attended school at Wales Lincoln School. Russell also farmed the family farm as a young man. Russell was united in marriage to Billie Woods on June 10, 1939 in Rockport, Missouri. They lived for a short time in California until Russell served his country in World War II in the Army. Russell served in Italy, was awarded the Bronze Star, and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, former member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge #1304, and the VFW. Russell was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed his work even after he retired. Preceeding him in death were his parents; 4 brothers: Laverne, Ivan, Kenneth, and infant Dale; and 2 sisters: Jeanette Holmes, and Esther Edlund. Survivors include his wife: Billie Jones of Red Oak, Iowa and many nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, November 17, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
