Birthplace: West Township, Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Ruby Bass, age 72, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 20, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Red Oak after an extended illness. Ruby Mae Bass was born July 30, 1929 in West Township of Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of O.C. "Slim" and Inez Smith Durham. She graduated from the Red Oak High School and received her Normal Training so she could teach at the West # 3 Country School. Ruby was united in marriage to George Bass on December 24, 1947 in Warsaw, Missouri. They lived all of their married life near Emerson, Iowa. In 1989 Ruby graduated from Buena Vista College receiving her Teaching Certificate. She was a teacher, homemaker, and a secretary for both the Methodist Church in Red Oak and in Emerson. She was a member of the Salem Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United Methodist Women in Emerson; and the American Legion Auxiliary. Preceding her in death were her parents; step-mother: Glady Durham; son: Stanley Bass; 2 sisters: Emogne Bauer; and Evelina Silkett. Survivors include her husband: George Bass; children: Dave Bass and his wife Betty of Red Oak, Iowa; Jon Bass and his wife Deb of Carson, Iowa; Jim Bass of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Kathy Franzmeier of Clarion, Iowa; and Ken Bass and his wife Tami of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Kent, Amy, Suzanne, Tricia, Joni, Bradley, & Kayla Bass; and Laura Franzmeier; sister: Joan Andrew of Des Moines, Iowa; brother: Ivan Durham of Hershey, Nebraska; 2 brothers-in-law: Wayne Bass and his wife Roberta of Eugene, Oregon; and Hadley Parker of Emerson, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at the Emerson United Methodist Church with burial in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, October 22, 2001 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
