Birthplace: Kansas City, MO Resided In: Red Oak, IA Ronald Glen Drake, age 59, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa. Ron was born October 13, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Leland and Dorothy (Reed) Drake. The family moved to Red Oak in 1968 and Ron graduated from Red Oak Community High School in 1975. He did coursework through Drake University. Ron was united in marriage to Sue Honeyman on June 25, 1977 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived in California for a short time before moving back to Red Oak in 1985. Ron worked for Oakview Construction in Marketing and started their office in Waukee, Iowa where he worked for 6 years. He later worked at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital at the help desk. Ron was a member of the First Christian Church where he loved to sing in the choir. He was a community volunteer with the Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, Red Oak Coalition, Red Oak Building Trades Committee, RAGBRAI Committee, and many other civic organizations. He loved to tend to his flowers and gardening, cooking, decorating, fishing, and Kansas City Chiefs Football. And he loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and father-in-law: Warren "Lee" Honeyman. Survivors include his wife: Sue Drake of Red Oak, IA; children: Adam Drake and wife Heidi of W. Des Moines, IA and Bonnie Abbuhl and husband Jason of N. Liberty, IA; grandchildren: Aubrey and Josie Drake and Jackson Abbuhl; brothers and sisters: Andrew Drake and wife Ann of Waverly, NE; Janet Osheim and husband Harold of Waukee, IA; Paul Drake and wife Maureen of Wentzville, MO; Jeanne Peterson and husband Greg of Kansas City, MO; Robert Drake of Red Oak, IA; Emily Carlisle and husband Dallas of Lebanon, MO; Phillip Drake of Dodge City, KS; Gary Drake and wife Laverne of Omaha, NE; and Aaron Drake of Forsyth, MO; mother-in-law: Shirley Honeyman of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the First Christian Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Ron's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
