Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Rodney Gayle Sowers, age 64, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 at his home. Rod was born May 1, 1956 in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Bryan and Carol Jean (Lehigh) Sowers. He graduated from Nishna Valley High School in 1974 and started working for the railroad. Rod was united in marriage to Carol Perkins in 1975 and two children were born to this union: Wesley and Dustin. Over the years Rod worked for the city of Riverside, Sowers Tiling which he later purchased from his father, and owned and operated Sowers Cemetery Lettering and Monuments. Rod was united in marriage to Dee Smith Skidmore in 2012. His hobbies included collecting guns, riding motorcycles, and playing his guitar. Rod loved rock-n-roll. Survivors include his wife: Dee Sowers of Red Oak, IA; sons: Wesley Sowers and wife Allison of Bettendorf, IA and Dustin Sowers and wife Gaby of Johnston, IA; step-son: Trevor Scanlan Shenandoah, IA; grandchildren: William, Reagan, Olivia, and Sophia; father: Bryan Sowers of Henderson, IA; mother: Carol Sowers of Carson, IA; brothers: Jeep Sowers and wife Lisa of Henderson, IA and Mark Sowers and wife Sandy of Tucson, AZ; sisters: Martha Good and husband Phil of Glenwood, IA and Mary Raney and husband Richard of Macedonia, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, July 13, 2020 at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Mills County, Iowa. There will be an open time for viewing from 9 AM until 5 PM Sunday, July 12, 2020 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
