Rodney William Courtier, age 72, of Hastings, Iowa, passed away March 23, 2023 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Rodney was born July 13, 1950 at Murphy Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Margaret Courtier. He attended Hastings elementary school before Strahan elementary school and Nishna Valley Jr./Sr. High School. Rod joined the United States Army on April 25, 1968 and served two tours in Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Janet Sue Goodwin on June 6, 1972 in Hastings, Iowa. Rod served a total of 22 ½ years in the army. He was stationed at Ft. Eustis, VA, twice, Panama Canal Zone, Germany, Ft. Huachuca, AZ, and Ft. Wainwright, AK. Alaska was his dream tour and he absolutely loved it there. While in Panama, they adopted a baby boy, Jesse Lyle. Jesse is now a professor and Chief Radiologist at UCSF. He is married and has two daughters that Grandpa Rod loved dearly and entertained often through facetime and when they visited. Upon retirement, Rod worked several different jobs before joining his brother, Bruce, working at nuclear power plants, cleaning reactors. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, due to Agent Orange, and had to retire.
Preceding him in death were his parents; Lyle and Viola Margaret Courtier; brothers: Roy Harmon, David Courtier, and Bruce Courtier; and nephew: Jeremy Courtier. Survivors include his wife: Janet Sue Courtier of Hastings; son: Jesse Lyle Courtier (Roongtip) and granddaughters: Radha and Rinya Courtier of San Francisco, CA; sisters: Kathy Ruble (Robert) of Kearney, MO and Vicky Allen of Cheyenne, WY; sisters-in-law: Mary Courtier of Shenandoah, IA; Chris Courtier of Hastings, IA; And Karen Mandina of Malvern, IA; brothers: Robin Courtier (Debbie) of Cheyenne, WY; Doug Courtier (Christine) of Bellevue, NE; Randy Courtier of Shenandoah, IA; Kevin Courtier (Ann) of Scottsbluff, NE; and Kent Courtier of Elkhorn, WI, along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 11 AM Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Hastings, Iowa Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hastings Community Building following the services.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arranging the services.
Military Honors will be observed.
