Obituary

Rodger Larry Wollenhaupt, age 74, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Bedford Specialty Care Center in Bedford, Iowa. Rodger was born November 17, 1951, in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Burton and Luella (Steiber) Wollenhaupt. Rodger grew up in Elliott, Iowa, where he excelled as a little league pitcher and loved fishing and taking swimming lessons. He graduated from Griswold High School in 1970. During his junior high and high school years, Rodger worked for Laird Mobile Station, ran two paper routes, and mowed yards. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army. Rodger served stateside in Texas working in the motor pool where he was a skilled mechanic. Upon his return to Elliott, from his years of service, he was a painter working with his dad and worked for area farmers. He was united in marriage to Kristin Williams on December 12, 1997, in Red Oak, Iowa, at the Nazarene Church. Rodger worked for NSK in Clarinda, Iowa, for 5 years, drove a semi for Viner’s Trucking of Emerson, Iowa, and retired after many years of service from Red Oak Greenhouse. He was good natured and loved joking with his friends and customers. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, taking the bird for rides in the truck, and cruising in the convertible. He attended First Covenant Church and was a former member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife: Kris Wollenhaupt of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Sherri Turner and husband Tracy of Elliott., Iowa; grandchildren: Trevor Weil and Jeffrey Weil of Dallas, Texas, and Kristie Stell of Dallas, Texas; great grandchildren: Preston Stonecipher, Elliott Weil, and Faithlyn, Paisley, Raelee, and Rylee Stell; brothers: Lee Wollenhaupt of Red Oak, Iowa, and Bill Wollenhaupt and wife Wendy of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life funeral will be held at 1 PM Friday, March 20, 2026, at the First Covenant Church in Red Oak. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in rural Clarinda, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel.
