Roberta Lee Burgus, age 91, of Yuma AZ, passed away on October 31, 2025, in her home at Desert Rose Retirement Community in Yuma.
Roberta was born on May 7, 1934, in Red Oak, IA, the daughter of Gertrude and Robert D. Adams.
Roberta grew up in Red Oak graduating from Red Oak High School in 1951. After high school, she attended the NW Institute of Medical Technology, graduating in 1953. She received degrees in Clinical Laboratory Techniques and X-ray and Electrocardiogram Techniques.
Roberta was united in marriage to Wayne Eldon Burgus on November 3, 1956, at the First Christian Church in Osceola, IA. Because of Wayne's 20-year naval career, Wayne and Roberta lived in many different places such as Hawaii and on Midway Island with most of their lives being stationed in California.
Roberta worked as a lab and x-ray technician in the different cities where Wayne was stationed. Eventually they retired, moved to Medford, OR, and then to Yuma, AZ.
Wayne and Roberta loved traveling in their RV to different places in the U.S. with their dogs. They eventually bought a mobile home in a 55+ mobile home park in Yuma, AZ. Roberta made a lot of friends and enjoyed delivering mail to her neighbors using her golf cart. She was a member of the Faith Horizon Baptist Church in Yuma. She often provided doughnuts and other goodies after Sunday services. She looked forward to the bi-monthly bible studies that she hosted at her home. She would often fix a meal and have lots of goodies to serve. Roberta also volunteered at VBS at her church. Roberta had a very generous nature and donated to many charities over the years.
Roberta was a member of the American Medical Technologies Society and the Red Hat Ladies Club.
Preceding Roberta in death were her parents, husband Wayne Burgus, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and George Maher, sister-in-law Jacky Adams, brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Dale and Billie Burgus, and niece Debby Conroy.
Roberta leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Floyd "Lynn" Adams of Red Oak, IA, nephews: Steve (Lynn) Adams, Jack (Frédérique) Adams, Mike (Dee) Maher, and David (Karen) Burgus; nieces: Shelley Adams, Kim Robinson, Kristi Patrick, Delaine (Richard) Gabel, Dayna Dove and many great nieces and nephews along with cherished friends Cathy McPhink and Maxine Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 15, 2025, at LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
