Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Robert L. Fort, age 86, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Red Oak Rehabilitation and Care Center. Robert L. Fort was born December 4, 1924 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Paul and Myrtle Fort. He attended school in Red Oak and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Upon his return from the war, he started working for the Thomas D. Murphy Calendar Company. On July 9, 1950, Robert was united in marriage to Cathryn Buehler in Red Oak, Iowa. Robert worked for 43 years at the Murphy Company retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, the 15-20 year club at Murphy's, and a lifetime member of the VFW. Robert was a lover of animals, especially birds and squirrels. His favorite bird was the bald eagle. Robert never knew a stranger, was always willing to help someone in need, and always loved to visit with friends and family. His hobbies included picking up cans, collecting coins and golf balls, wood working, and making new friends. Robert also volunteered many hours with the Meals On Wheels Program. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother: Eugene. Survivors include his wife: Cathryn Fort of Red Oak, Iowa; daughters: Marce Larson and husband Jerry of Georgetown, Kentucky and Teresa Forsyth and husband Kendall of Council Bluffs, Iowa; son: Brian Fort and wife Debra of Pinellas Park, Florida; grandchildren: Michelle Boyd and husband Doug of Louisville, Kentucky; Robert Larson and wife Kelly of Louisville, Kentucky; and Heather Forsyth and fiancé John Lyons of Omaha, Nebraska; great grandchildren: Derek and Megan Boyd and Shelby and Noah Larson; brother-in-law: Ralph Buehler and wife Phyllis of Newton, Iowa; sister-in-law: Margery Smith and husband Clinton of Centerville, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church or the Red Oak Rehabilitation and Care Center. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
