Birthplace: Villisca, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Robert Lee Eshelman, age 85, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Robert was born July 3, 1930 in Villisca, Iowa the son of Amos and Ruth Eshelman. He was raised in Clarinda, Iowa where he attended school. Robert served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Upon his return home from service, he worked several odd jobs before going to work for the phone company out of Clarinda. He was united in marriage to Luella Helberg on November 21, 1953 in Maryville, Missouri. They moved to Red Oak, Iowa in 1957 where Robert worked at Iowa Power and Light Company retiring after 40 years of service. Robert was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Red Oak Elks Lodge and Red Oak Eagles Lodge. His hobbies included camping, fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, and playing cards. Preceding him in death were his parents and wife: Luella Eshelman on September 14, 2011. Survivors include his children: Gloria Mainquist and special friend Dan Richards of Sac City, IA; Merlin Eshelman and wife Michelle of Omaha, NE; and Shari Woods and special friend Gregory Smith of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Stephanie Mainquist of Red Oak, IA; Christopher Mainquist and fiance Lindsey of Lincoln, NE; Philip Eshelman of Red Oak, IA; Megan Eshelman, John Eshelman, and Danielle Eshelman of Omaha, NE; Justin Archer of Villisca, IA; Kyle Archer of Clarinda, IA; and Ember Erickson and special friend Danny Adams of Red Oak, IA; sister: Phyllis Simmonton of Atlantic, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the North Page Cemetery in rural Page County, Iowa. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the funeral. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
