Birthplace: St. Louis, Missouri Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Robert E. "Bob" Allen, age 87, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center. Robert Eugene "Bob" Allen was born December 5, 1919 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of Robert M. and Verna Mae (Timmons) Allen. The family lived in Missouri where Bob attended school and later moved to West Township of Montgomery County where he also attended school. He was united in marriage to Della Clauson in 1941. Bob served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was with the 96th Infantry Division known as the "Deadeyes". After the war Bob returned home until 1954 when he moved to Rawlins, Wyoming. Shortly after that he was united in marriage to Edith Artlip on June 4, 1954 in Casper, Wyoming. They lived in Rawlins until moving to Elliott, Iowa in 1961. Bob ran the restaurant in Elliott and later was the night auditor for the Holiday Inn in Red Oak until his retirement. Bob was a member of Community of Christ Church. He was also the former Mayor of Elliott. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, raising pigeons, raising exotic chickens, and running field trials with Hound Dogs. Bob was also known for his story telling and he loved the family history. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter: Roberta. Survivors include his wife Edith Allen of Elliott, Iowa; son: Gary Allen and wife Marcia of Corning, Iowa; daughter: Kay Keeton of Elliott, Iowa; grandchildren: Lyndsey Lamb of Griswold, Iowa; John Allen of Storm Lake, Iowa; Rachel Allen of Corning, Iowa; and Rick Keeton of Shenandoah, Iowa; great grandchildren: Bobby Keeton of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Meagan Keeton of Shenandoah, Iowa; Jessica Keeton of Farragut, Iowa; and Rachael Peterson and husband Andrew of College Springs, Iowa; 3 great great grandsons; brothers and sisters: Don Allen and wife Joan of Red Oak, Iowa; Ruth Echternach and husband Wayne of Stanton, Iowa; Kenneth Allen of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Carol "Bud" Allen and wife Jewel of Rawlins, Wyoming; and Bertha Mae Dick of Corning, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, February 9, 2007 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor David MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held 1 hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
