Birthplace: Denison, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Rita M. Hilzendeger, age 74, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 11, 2005 at her home in Red Oak. Rita Marie Hilzendeger was born May 12, 1931 in Denison, Iowa. She was the daughter of Edward and Daisy (Hinkle) Meggison. Rita attended rural school in Adams County, Iowa and high school in Gravity, Iowa, Corning, Iowa, and Beatrice, Nebraska. The family moved to Red Oak in the late 1940's. Rita attended Beauty School in Laramie, Wyoming and completed her education at Barnes Beauty School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Alex Hilzendeger on July 9, 1949 in Audubon, Iowa. To this union were born three children: Vicki, Terry, and Jody. Rita was the manager of Jackie's Too Beauty Shop from 1961 thru 1976. She then worked for the Red Oak Police Department until transferring to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department in 1977, retiring in 1993. She was a radio dispatcher and a jail matron. Rita was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Chautauqua Chapter of the National Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association of which she was a past president. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Howard Meggison; niece: Becky Meggison; and nephew Bobby Janssen. Survivors include her 2 daughters: Vicki Brown and husband Chic of Marshalltown, Iowa; and Jody Shellberg and husband Gary of Stanton, Iowa; son: Terry Hilzendeger and wife Dorothy of Red Oak, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Greg Brown and wife Balinda of Marshalltown, Iowa; Jason Brown of Marshalltown, Iowa; Joshua Brown of Mt. Dora, Florida; and Heather Eige and husband Darrin of Iowa City, Iowa; great grandchildren: Christopher, David, Patrick, Makala, and Garret Brown all of Marshalltown, Iowa; 3 sisters: Linda Smith and husband Donnie of Red Oak, Iowa; Nancy Davis and husband Jack of Margate, Florida; and Shirley Janssen and husband Robert of Laramie, Wyoming; 3 brothers: Marvin Meggison and wife Norma of Red Oak, Iowa; Max Meggison of Red Oak, Iowa; and Jerry Meggison and wife Jo Alice of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral with Father Ken Gross officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, August 15, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
