Rita Ilene Herber, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at her home. Rita was born November 29, 1944, in Chariton, Iowa, the daughter of John William and Johanna Rose (Roberts) Caylor. She graduated from Chariton High School and then attended business school. She lived in Ottumwa, Iowa for many years and worked for First National Bank working up to Vice-President. She then decided to change careers and attended Indian Hills Community College where she received her Physical Therapy Assistant designation. Rita and Mike Herber moved to Red Oak, Iowa, where Rita worked for the physical therapy department at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She and Mike were united in marriage while living in Red Oak. Mike preceded her in death in 2010. Rita loved being outdoors, going to the lake, showing horses, mushroom hunting, dancing, and listening to music. She also loved her cats throughout the years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Mike; and sister: Pauline Allen. Survivors include her children: Laura Moffit and husband Dennis of Oak Point, Texas and Bill Swainey and wife Tracey of Glendale, Arizona; grandchildren: Bethany Moffit and Kaitlyn Moffit of Oak Point, Texas and Dylan Swainey of Glendale, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life gathering with food and fellowship will be held from Noon until 2 PM Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Emerson Community Building in Emerson, Iowa.
