Birthplace: Pasadena, California Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Rick Browning, age 45, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, November 14, 2003 in Mills County, Iowa from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Eric Daniel "Rick" Browning was born January 3, 1958 in Pasadena, California the son of Ed and Marilouise (Lyons) Browning. He grew up in San Diego and the family moved to Dana Point, California during Rick's high school years. He graduated from Dana Point High School in 1976 and attended College at San Diego State University, Saddleback College, and Cal State Lutheran. Rick was a popular athlete in football and baseball. He played baseball in college and was drafted to play professional ball. Rick was united in marriage to Dawnette Mayhew on August 16, 1980 in Dana Point, California. After their marriage Rick became associated with Farm Bureau Insurance as an agent in Duchesne, Utah. In 3 years he was promoted to manager and transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah. After 3 years he was transferred to Fort Dodge, Iowa and moved to Red Oak in 1992 to become the manager of the Twin Rivers Insurance Agency for Farm Bureau. Rick was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints where he held various positions throughout the years. Currently he was the primary teacher for 7 year olds. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He coached many youth activities as well as coaching Club Volleyball. Rick was the assistant high school football coach in Duchesne, Utah for three years. He led the team to the state playoffs all three years. He also coached baseball at Altamont. He played competition softball and held the National Champion softball title in the "C" class. His greatest joy in life was watching his kids play ball and hitting the long ball on the golf course. Rick enjoyed the Red Oak Country Club golf course in which he always walked the course when he played. He never rode in a cart. Rick was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife: Dawnette Browning of Red Oak, Iowa; 4 daughters: Amy Taylor and her husband Tony of Red Oak, Iowa; Natalie Browning and her husband Jarren of Logan, Utah; J Browning and Brittney Browning of Red Oak, Iowa; son: Beau Browning of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 brothers: Ed Browning and his wife Maggie of Vernal, Utah; and Ken Browning and his wife Linda of San Diego, California; sister: Wendy Zeugschmidt and her husband Paul of Valley Center, California; mother-in-law: Erma Merkley and her husband Kipp of Duchesne, Utah; 3 sisters-in-law: DeAnn Bradford of Springville, Utah; Darla Hansen and her husband Chuck of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Glenna LaRoque and her husband Shawn of Duchesne, Utah; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at the Red Oak Community High School. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial scholarship fund is being established in the name of Rick Browning. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
