Birthplace: Spencer, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Richard George Myers, age 80 of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital on July 23rd. Richard (Dick) Myers was born July 28th 1933 in Spencer, Iowa the son of George and Agnes (Manwarren) Myers. Dick grew up in Emmetsburg, Iowa and in June of 1951, enlisted in the United States Marine Corp serving his country proudly during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his discharge in 1954 Dick moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa and married the love of his life, Patricia Sue Maddox on August 15, 1954. Dick worked at Hormels for 13 years and had several odd jobs to include hauling coal, plowing driveways and working at Ridgewood Lanes in his spare time.After Hormels, Dick and Pat owned and operated many businesses in Fort Dodge, Boone, Red Oak and Lincoln Nebraska. These businesses included a miniature golf course and driving range, 3 bowling centers, a pro shop, a bar and restaurant , a skating rink and the Hi Ho the Dario restaurant. Dicks love of bowling brought them to Red Oak where they owned and operated Red Oak Lanes for 24 years. Dick also built and ran Skateway skating rink for 12 years. Dick bowled several perfect games in his life but never stopped trying for one more. He enjoyed helping other bowlers improve their game through instruction or drilling them a new ball. Dick also coached youth bowlers for over 30 years and was the Assistant Coach for the Red Oak High School Bowling Teams. His expertise led them to several State Championships. Dick earned his pilots license at the age of 47 and continued on to receive his instrument rating at age 54. His hobby was flying his Piper Cherokee 6 airplane and taking friends and family for a ride. Dick was preceded in death by his wife Patricia of 59 years of marriage; his parents George and Agnes Myers; his sisters Jean Mankle and Rachel Hacker and brother, William Myers. Dick is survived by his two children, Pam Schoening and husband Phil of Red Oak and Allan Myers and wife Jane of Red Oak; six grandchildren, Eric Artzer and wife Jeanne, Stephanie Jeffords and Husband Paul, Jessica Schoening, Zachary Myers, Joel Myers and Kelsey Myers; five great grand children, Aries, Aubrey, Maddox, Grace and Benjamin; his sister, Nelda Wolthius and Husband Gary and brother, James Myers.
